I’m in a quandary. Where do I go from here?
Here’s where I am now.
I've been bothered by racism since childhood.. Only in the 80's did I realize that white supremacy/white privilege is the easy chair of live supported by the strong legs of racism, sexism, homophobia and antisemitism. Now I realize racism is an emotional commitment to ignorance about everyone else (them, others) considered by the dominant culture (us) in our lack of understanding to be not deserving of the same rights and privileges we enjoy as a natural right.
I first believed in equality because I grew up singing "Jesus loves the little children, all the children of the world; Red and yellow, black and white, they are precious in His sight; Jesus loves the little children of the world." Scientific evidence supports the equality argument as we share almost all our genes.
However, we have gone different ways as our ancestors spread through various diasporas to the ends of the earth and beyond. And as they entered varied environments, they developed varied strategies for survival. Among those strategies was cooperation, which seems to have been strengthened in most groups by defining themselves as The People, and all the others as 'heathens,'
Almost universally, might has defined right to the point that we may now be on the cusp of mutual annihilation by war with weapons of such mass destruction, none of us may be able to escape. Some of us have so plundered and despoiled the planet that has supported us that we may have created a planetary crisis that has placed us all in harms way from environmental disaster. As I see it, we need, nay, must, come to understand how we got into such a mess and work together to find a solution to our now universal dilemma.
I want to explore how we might do that. I’ve been trying with various posts.
I have the impression from emails, from Facebook, from 3 Practice Circles, from various news media, and journals, and SubStack, that vast numbers of us know we are in deep trouble in this country and in the world that we need to stop the hate and work together with respect and consideration, to practice the obvious strategies to save our planet from global warming, overuse of resources and overproduction of pollution and trash. And I see and read about evidence that various strategies are being implement in many places around the world.
At the same time I hear a lot of pessimism and fear that it’s too little too late.
So, what to focus on next, or is there such cognitive overload that too many voices in the air causes too little ability to find and focus on the positive, the productive, the useful?
I am swimming in information. I’m reading about 8 books now and one is nearly 1500 pages and it is supposed to be fiction, but it is so descriptive of where I see the USA at this moment in history, I m hoping for this clue I need on where to go next with my reporting/journaling/rambling/facebooking/researching/email reading and writing.
Oops. I need to send a birthday card through cyberspace. Excuse me.
